I have been told i have 3 problems with my eyes which rule out laser eye surgery, my astigmatism, i have a nystagmus and my prescription is high at +6.5. On eye tests i am told i should be able to drive but in reality i can not read a number plate at the required distance.
Is there anything i can do/have done to improve my vision so i can drive?

Keep wearing your corrective lenses (glasses or contacts) and ask your ophthalmologist or DMV about the possibility of getting a restricted license. (sometimes it requires getting an exam signed by an ophthalmologist or having an ophthalmologist sign a particular form) I think it varies based on the state you live in but some states allow for driving during the day time and in places around town. Good luck!

Might help, can’t hurt…
Is your Nystagmus bad? mine is aswel as most of my family and although I love my family I would want them in charge of a vehicle! No offence!
Eat a bunch o’ carrots! haha. But they really are good for your vision. Ask your optometrist!
