Can I Still Get Contact Lenses?? Complicated Story Please Help?

I have astigmatism. My glasses have a big prism in them and I have to have a surgery to correct my astigmatism and then another surgery like lasik to get rid of all the problems. I am 17 and can’t do those surgeries for another few years because my eyes are still changing. I’m going to be in my school play and the teacher says that we can’t have glasses for performances. I have no contacts and if I take off my glasses, not only do I see blur, but I also see everything in double. What should I do? I really want to be in this show! Any way I can get contacts to at least not see double? Or to see less blur?
so the question is can i get contacts if i need a prism in them?

What the hell is wrong with your teacher? she is basically treating you different because you can’t see well. Talk to your parents and then talk to your principal about how you are not allowed to be in a school play because you have glasses and you can’t see without them. How ridiculous some teacher saying you can’t wear glasses in the play. She should be reprimanded immediately. Fight this instead of trying to get contacts, you should not have to spend money on contacts (which likely will not be any good, I have astigmatism and they could not fit me for contacts due to the extreme shape of my eyes) and you should not be treated unfairly. It’s a school play not broadway she needs to get real.

Yes sweetheart, they do make contact lenses especially for people with astigmatisim. The lenses are actually weighted to sit on your eye a certain way and you have to put them in with the weight side down so that the lens can correct your vision, but other than that, you should see fine. Go see your eye doc.

I’m pretty sure you can get contacts for an astigmatism. My brother has them.

They do make contacts to correct astigmatism, however I do not believe contacts can be made with a prism correction. The contacts prescribed would likely correct the blur, but probably would not help with seeing double. I suggest that you ask your eye doctor to know for sure.
I also suggest asking your doctor if he/she could prescribe eye exercises to help improve your binocular vision so you would be less dependent or could possibly be free of the eyeglasses with the prism correction. If he/she is not able to help with that, then see if you can be referred to someone else.
I am not suggesting this one because of the play. I am saying this one from experience. I have strabismus and experienced double vision as a child. I was prescribed eyeglasses with a prism correction and they just made me feel sick so they were not a viable treatment option for me. I went to vision therapy and that improved my binocular vision. I still experience some double vision but it is not as bad as it was.
I do not think it is fair for your teacher not to allow someone to wear eyeglasses when they need them. I would address this issue with the principal.
Break a Leg :) (I was in theatre too!)
