Hi all I went to the Eye doctor about 2 weeks ago, and got new glasses coming. Well the scheduled my contact fitting exam for tomorrow. The fitting exam cost $76 and lens cost around $46 for both eyes, that’s the price the secratary gave me. They doctor wouldn’t give me a pirce. Is this price normal? How long will the boxes last, they are going to be 2 wks disposables? They also offered me contacts that last a yr, for 90$ for both eyes. I have an astigmatism, but the doctor told me isn’t strong enough to affect my contacts? I have never had contacts before, can any explain what they do on the fitting exam? Will I get contacts tomorrow? Or do they order them, and I will have to wait til they come in. I’m going to try to get a perscription and order online later on. but they said the first boxes I have to buy from the office. What online sites does everyone use? Also what drops or cleaning supplies does everyone recomend, and where do you purchase it? I am just so excited sorry for all the questions.

Many of these questions should be directed to your eye doctor’s office secretary or eye technician or office manager. Prices should be posted on a document somewhere. I am sure they wouldn’t just throw out a price that is different for every patient for the same contacts. Most contacts come in a box of 6 single lenses. Each lens is good for 14 days if they are 2 week disposable daily wear lenses and there are other 6 packs which can be 30 day disposable lenses. There are also 4 pack, 2 pack and single lens options too. Does your insurance include the boxes of lenses ? or do you have to pay for those yourself ? You can order the contacts online but realize that you usually need to buy a year supply to qualify for free shipping otherwise shipping is 6.99 for most places. Have you tried bestcontacts.com ? The office cannot force you to purchase your contact boxes at their clinic by the way. The 1st fitting set of contacts are free or included into the fitting fee as well. If you do buy the boxes from the doctor’s office ask them if they will allow you to have several follow ups if you have troubles with them later on or will you need to pay for further visit costs ? If you buy your contacts from them perhaps they will waive the follow up fees however if you don’t buy the lenses from them they might charge you for the office visits if you have trouble with any lenses you buy online. Use the Brand the doctor’s office recommends and don’t use cheap generic brands from cheap stores. Don’t risk an eye infection and risk losing your eyesight.
