I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 3 and a half when the doc discovered i have astigmatism. I am 12 and a half now and I really want them. My parents said i can have them at 13 but I don’t want to wait!!!

If they said you can get them at 13, and you’re 12½, then that is only 6 months. That is not long to wait. Just make sure they don’t push it back a year when you get close to 13. My parents did that – when I was 15 they said “you can get them when you’re 16″ and when I was 16 they said “You can get them when you’re 17″. I ended up getting them when I was 19, with my own money. Even then I had to hide them from my dad.

It happened with me also. I did some research about contact lenses. Ask your parents why you can’t have them now. Explain to them that you’ll be very responsible with it. If all their problems have been solved about contact lenses, then hopefully you’ll be able to have them earlier. Also, tell them that you’ll look better without glasses on.

    dear friend,
since u r only 12 years old,so ur parents may be right to wait u upto 13 years for soft contact lenses.
why r u not convincing them for ortho K Contact lenses.these lenses u have to wear only in night and remove it in the morning.whole day u can see without glasses or contacts.after three weeks u hav eto wear it only twice a week in the night.
in 60-70% cases it arrests myopia progression especially in juvenile.so its better convince ur parents to contact good ohthalmologists in ur area and talk about these lenses.so many teenagers in India especially of ur age have been benefiteed from this new technology.

6 months won’t make that much of a difference.
In the mean time, why don’t you start doing chores around the house and researching contacts?
if you really want them soon, and before school starts then i’d start researching everything about contacts and say things like:
    you’ll have peripheral vision
    more comfortable
    better for sports
    improves self confidence
next time you go to the optometrist, ask him/her about them.
and here is a helpful site:http://www.acuvue.com/teens.htm
    i’m getting contacts on thursday. i’m 13 1/2. :]

I think a few extra months will be ok, just start working on showing them you are ready by doing research on solutions you want to use, etc
