I Am Nearsighted In Both Eyes, My Right Eye Has Astigmatism?

I am nearsighted in both eyes. Yesterday, my eye doctor gave me two regular contact lenses and when wearing them, my left eye sees perfectly but my right eye sees slightly blurry. The optometrist said that the astigmatism in my right eye is only .5 and not severe enough for a toric lens.
If I see blurry out of my right eye and not my left, do you think I need a toric lens for that eye?

It’s normal to add a little extra minus to the prescription to compensate if you don’t use a toric lens. Perhaps a little stronger lens will clear you up rather than using a toric.

0.5 is less astigmatism correction than any toric lenses come. Most of the time that amount of astigmatism is ignored when fitting contacts. If you notice the blur only by covering your right eye, you will be fine. Just quit covering your right eye and forget about it. If it bothers you when looking with both eyes, you may need to be fit in a toric lens. It will cost more and may be a little less comfortable.

Your optician answered correctly with regards to the toric lenses. An alternative is to give you a higher prescription on the right eyes but this would be totally up to you.
Toric lenses are more expensive so i took the option of higher prescription in my right. Toric lenses are also heavier than normal lenses. At the moment, you don’t need them but in future, these are a few points to consider

maybe you need a lightly stronger prescription in the regular lens to correct the 0.5 astigmatism in your right eye. Toric lenses are for astigmatism that are 0.75 or bigger…0.5 is quite small.
