Hi,
Ive just got an eye test. Result was sph -0.5 for each eye and slight astigmatism in one of the eyes (i forgot which one). The optometrist was going to give me prescription glasses (to help driving at night) but i thought that i did not need one. They usually jack up the price anyway. So, the question was do i need glasses?

You could be more myopic by night and you might really appreciate the difference if you had some glasses.
That prescription is mild so it is a choice on your part. It may help with driving at night. If you are not experiencing any problems while driving at night, then you probably do not need them. You will likely still pass the eye exam at the DMV.
If you want to see if the prescription helps you, then order it from an inexpensive place online such as zennioptical.com. They start at $8.00. If the eyeglasses help you, then you may want to order better quality eyeglasses from your optometrist.
My right eye has close to normal vision and I only correct the vision in my left eye (plano -1.75 axis 40). My doctor advised that the prescription for my right eye would be -.50, but I could still read the 20/20 line even though I struggled a little. I decided to try correcting it with a trial contact lens for about two weeks to see if I wanted to start correcting my right eye. I decided that it did not make any real difference for me and it was not worth the cost of purchasing new eyeglasses/contacts..
You sound like my younger daughter. Her prescription is so mild that she hardly ever wears her glasses. She doesn’t seem to need them that much. On the other hand, her older sister is severely nearsighted and it looks like she’s going to need new glasses in the near future because her prescription is getting worse. I wish she didn’t have to wear glasses.
Its up to you whether you get them or not..if you find night driving would be easier than get the glasses and use them for that or anything that may require good distance vision..there is no need to wear them all the time as your prescription is low.
why did you go to the eye doctor for? he told you you need glasses. why ask us ? we aren’t eye care professionals but i will be happy to send you a bill for 100.00 if that makes you feel better
