Astigmatism is a vision condition that occurs when the front surface of your eye, the cornea, is slightly irregular in shape. This irregular shape prevents light from focusing properly on the back of your eye, the retina. As a result, your vision may be blurred at all distances.
People with severe astigmatism will usually have blurred or distorted vision, while those with mild astigmatism may experience headaches, eye strain, fatigue or blurred vision at certain distances.
Most people have some degree of astigmatism. A comprehensive optometric examination will include testing to diagnose astigmatism and determine the degree.
Almost all levels of astigmatism can be optically corrected with properly prescribed and fitted eyeglasses and/or contact lenses.
Corneal modification is also a treatment option for some patients.
Means an eye is shaped more like a football vs round like a baseball. It is very common and usually not a problem. You just have to get special contacts that will fit it–it’ s a fitting issue. if anything.
it means your cornea or lens is shaped , more like an egg than a baseball shape, it can be occompanied with near/far-sightedness and makes vision blurred in an offset manner you can have it corrected w/ lenses or refractive surgery
It’s exactly what severina418 and tizzasho2 said; not what the first person said!
Your eyeball is shaped like an oval rather than a circle, though in the doctor’s office they say football and baseball. Yours must be severe, because you had to get custom fitted contacts; but don’t worry, your eyes will just get tired when staring at a screen or reading for too long, or get blurred or cause mild headaches. The only pain in the rear is getting the custom ones; they can cost up to $200!
It means one eye is near sighted while the other is far sighted and you have trouble focusing. Special contacts or glasses can correct this.
