I just had my pupillary distance measured today and it was 33 by 32, however just a week earlier I had it measured and it was 34 by 33… the optician said all my previous measurements for as long as I was wearing glasses was always 34 by 33…
How come it came out to 33 by 32 today (she checked it like 5 times)… I have been pretty stressed lately which I heard could dialate your pupils… would that affect the reading?
its 2mm off from what it always was, i’m thinking of going back tomm morning to recheck. My perscription is -2.25 on both eyes (no astigmatism), will 2mm make a difference?
thanks

The PD measurement is something that is important, but being off by only 1 in each eye is not that big of a deal. No one is being negligent. This is like parking your car an inch over from where it was ….not much difference. Your prescription is such that we would have to move it a realy far amount for you to see that it is off. Higher RX’s would make a big difference but this is not that much of a big deal. People taking a PD in our office can get different ones from person to person, this is not an exact science. Do not worry about it.
Not to worry, it could be simply that the machine might be a hair off perfect. The dilation of your pupils should not make any difference for the PD. Also, i don’t think you would even be able to notice 1mm off…
No worries! I am an optometrist and optician for my practice and you would not believe how many times the PDs are off just due to human error. Sometimes if they get a new measurement, they will just defer to your old measurements because that is what your eyes are used to. I HIGHLY doubt your eye spacing grew overnight unless you are 15 years old and still growing. Do not sweat the small stuff…No need to stalk the optician…1mm per eye difference would not make any noticable difference in your vision anyways. So relax:)
