My sister has -5 -6 vision, and an astigmatism. Would her eyes be suitable for laser surgery?
I saw an advert that said ‘FROM £395 pr eye’, but would it cost more for her eyes?
Also, how do they do the surgery? She has tried contact lenses, but she can’t bare to put her finger in her eye!
Thank you!

Judging by your sisters prescription she may be eligible for surgery. I’m assuming that you’ve seen that offer with Optical Express, if so, it’s a con. “From £395 per eye” is literally for people who have very little prescription with no need for laser correction. It will cost your sister considerably more with her prescription.
Also she needs to consider 3 things if she does decide to go ahead with OE, first her prescription needs to be stable for 2 years prior to surgery, with no more than a .50 change. also she will need to be tested to make sure that her cornea is sufficiently thick enough to take the surgery, and maybe the biggest thing that she needs to remember is it’s not a permanent solution. The life expectancy of any corrective surgery is about 7-10 years, after which time she may find that her eyes go back to exactly the same prescription that she is now and depending on what surgery she has initially, she may not be able to have it done again.
The surgery is done by creating a little flap in the cornea, whilst the laser creates a smooth surface on the middle section of the cornea called the stroma. The flap is then resealed shut. This is how perfect vision is achieved again. The surgeon places clamps over the eyes to keep them open, but your sister will have to remember to keep perfectly still throughout the procedure as even something as small as a millimetre of movement can throw the laser off slightly and cause problems with the vision.
I hope this is what you are looking for
I don’t think she would be ineligible for lasic because my Mom was recommended for that and she actually has worse vision then that. I do know however that your sister would have had to have consistent vision for the last four years (meaning her prescription didn’t change at all). And I know runnings in the US are about $1000 per eye again that was an estimate given to my mom ultimately I recommend your sister goes to an eye doctor and asks them or just calls them on the phone.
This is a great article summing up the PROS and CONS of eye surgey as well as explaining the procedure.http://hubpages.com/hub/Laser-Surgery-PR…
