I recently went to the eye doctor and discovered that I have an astigmatism and am farsighted. I am just a little confused on what exactly an astigmatism is and what its effects are. I have really bad anxiety and I wonder if this could cause the astigmatism to be worse.

I’m Trying To Figure Out Exactly What Astigmatism Is?

I googled it but I get all this different stuff and I don’t understand how my cornea being shaped a different way does anything. I wore glasses before but haven’t owned a pair in a year. I never had astigmatism before. I went to the eye doctor and she said I have it in both eyes. Can anyone explain what it is. All the information I get is different.

How Bad Exactly Is A “bad Astigmatism.”?

My cylinder is -0.75. Is this considered just mild? and would it require toric lenses, because they are so much more expensive and my vision for that eye isn’t even that bad.
Also, is there a regular prescription that is similar to an astigmatism prescription? thanks.

I am almost 14 and today the eye doctor said I had a slight astigmatism. He said not to worry about it, but will I eventually need glasses? He said something about straining my eyes to read computer screens and texts on my phone. I am constantly on the computer and texting. So glasses? No glasses?
