Contacts/glasses Question-why Do I Have To Get Used To Glasses First?

Hi –
I got glasses recently (I’m 13) cuz I have 20/100 in every eye and slight astigmatism. However, I look like a nerd anyway and my friends told me to get contacts NOW cuz you look so nerdy. SO NERDY like really nerdy. My question-I’m responsible, and I’m willing to take care of contacts for as long as it takes/I won’t break them. I don’t have any headaches with glasses. Why are my parents telling me to wear glasses for a while first?

Is it that simple or what exacly will they do since i had my yearly check up on January. Can Astigmtism First Show Up Around Age 40? How Long Should I Try Out My New Glasses?

I recently got an eye exam from an opthalmologist and my prescription shows astigmatism in both eyes. I have never noticed blurriness or any warped vision previously, and my previous exams with other opticians (including one about 18 months ago) did not show astigmatism.
I got my new glasses today and feel a little like my right eye is looking through a fishbowl. It’s nothing horrible, but it’s a little weird.
Should I give the new glasses a few days? They don’t give me headaches, so that’s not an issue. They don’t make much of a difference in vision from the old glasses (other than astigmatism), but…they look a lot better than the old ones.
First Time For Contacts.. I Have A Lot Of Questions?

I have an appointment Thursday at 4 to get my eyes “fitted” for contacts.
I have astigmatism, and I am nearsighted. I also am prone to allergies, so sometimes my eyes get dry.
What contacts would you suggest? I would like a reasonable price, but good quality. I definitely want either breathable or ones that keep your eyes from drying out.
What is the best contact solution?
How long do you wear them at first before you replace them, if they are disposable?
Do you have to take them out before using eyedrops?
Feel free to be as detailed as possible with your answer, or if you have any tips or advice, please share.

Did Anyone Else Have This Problem When They First Wore Contacts Designed For Astigmatism?

When I went to the eye doctor today, he told me I have astigmatism. He had me put in a pair of contact lenses with my prescription designed to work with astigmatism and told me to try them out for a week. When I first put them in I felt like I could see better already, but as soon as I left I realized that the vision at the very outer corners of my eyes seemed blurry, almost like the contact lenses weren’t covering the entire area that they should…kinda hard to explain. I know I had them in right because he checked them, and I could see perfectly, but something was definitely wrong near the corners of my eyes.
After about 2 hours, my vision looked like it does when my eyes get really dry, but my eyes weren’t dry…I couldn’t read the computer screen well and had to take them out.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with astigmatism contacts and if it means maybe I’m not able to wear them. I do go back in a week for a follow up so I’ll explain it to him, but was just curious if this was normal.
Thanks!
Is Distorted Vision Normal At First With Toric Contact Lenses?

This is my third time trying contacts because they have never felt right or been really clear. I finally found out that they offer contacts for astigmatism, so this time the contacts feel fine in my eyes but my vision isn’t all that clear. The best way to describe it is like when you go swimming or are crying and your vision isn’t blurry, but a little distorted by light or what not, so you have to blink for a few seconds before things clear up. That’s what it’s like for me. It’s my third day wearing these toric lenses, so I’m wondering if this could get better eventually or if it’s not normal at all. My eye doctor also told me that I could try aspheric lenses, which don’t move around so my vision could be clearer. Any ideas?

My 9 year old ADHD son had his first eye exam on 7/20 and was prescribed glasses. He subsequently failed a routine screening at school and we took him back to the same optometrist, who then diagnosed him with astigmatism but the new RX does not treat the astigmatism. I will get another doctor to examine him soon, but I am wondering if astigmatism can be tricky to diagnose and why the doctor charged me for two exams? It was only two months in between the exams and the prescription changed. We were told he had a growth spurt, and going forward are we going to need to have him examined every two months?
