Hi all I went to the Eye doctor about 2 weeks ago, and got new glasses coming. Well the scheduled my contact fitting exam for tomorrow. The fitting exam cost $76 and lens cost around $46 for both eyes, that’s the price the secratary gave me. They doctor wouldn’t give me a pirce. Is this price normal? How long will the boxes last, they are going to be 2 wks disposables? They also offered me contacts that last a yr, for 90$ for both eyes. I have an astigmatism, but the doctor told me isn’t strong enough to affect my contacts? I have never had contacts before, can any explain what they do on the fitting exam? Will I get contacts tomorrow? Or do they order them, and I will have to wait til they come in. I’m going to try to get a perscription and order online later on. but they said the first boxes I have to buy from the office. What online sites does everyone use? Also what drops or cleaning supplies does everyone recomend, and where do you purchase it? I am just so excited sorry for all the questions.

For the past 4 months, my optometrist has been doing his best to fit my eyes with a new contact lense prescription. However, each new prescription has failed, and we’re out of solutions!
We’ve tried various brands, even Acuvue Oasys, which was very uncomfortable (it was very dry, and I had trouble removing the contacts from my eyes).
My eye doctor thought the prescription was too strong, and changed it to a weaker prescription, which is almost exactly the same prescription I had been wearing for two years prior to this, but my nearsight is terrible now! He suggested reading glasses, but they don’t help either. Any suggestions?
In the meantime, he has fitted me with glasses. The lenses may be too strong. Would this have an affect on how my eyes like the contact prescription?
Eye history:
- Astigmatism.
- Contact wearer for 10 years
- I’m in my early twenties and am very healthy.
- I recently started taking Allegra D for newly emerging allergies (apparently my sinuses are against me as well as my eyes)
I realize contacts are merely a convenience, but they make my job much easier, and I would greatly appreciate an understanding as to why I can suddenly no longer wear contacts.

If my K reading is:
44.12/46.36
and my spectacle prescription is:
PL-2.00 x 5
PL-2.25 x171
(I have astigmatism)
Is it possible for me to know what my base curve and diameter are supposed to be?
I have been wearing contact lenses (plano, blue, I was never fitted for them) for 7 years, and they are 8.5 B.C. and 14.2 D and I wanted to know whether they fit properly, so I went to an O.D. yesterday (who was VERY rude and condescending) to ensure that they fit properly, and she said that because they don’t sell that brand in her office she could not tell me whether they fit properly, she could only tell me my K reading and my eye glasses prescription. So I paid $125.00 for nothing. She looked in my eye with my lenses on (as a favor) and said there was an air bubble inside. What does that mean? Is that a showing that they don’t fit properly? Could my astigmatism have come from the air bubble in my contact lenses and wearing them anyways for 7 years?
Also, can someone please interpret my K reading into a base curve?
Thanks!
