How Severe Is A -.25 Astigmatism? And What Does X105 Mean?

Filed under FAQ on advance for astigmatism

I went to a new eye doctor today, and instead of my usual OD -2.75 sph, OS -1.75 sph prescription, the new one reads OD -2.75 -.25×105, OS -1.75 sph.
I did some research online and apparently this means I have an astigmatism in my right eye. I’m a little confused because the doctor did not discuss this with me, and at 29 years old, I’ve never been diagnosed with an astigmatism before. I’ve also never had blurry vision that I’ve noticed.
Is it possible to develop one this late in life? If so, how severe is this -.25? And what does x105 mean?
I have a couple of boxes of contacts that are not toric lenses… will it hurt me to continue wearing them?

I Have Severe Astigmatism. My Dr. Said It’s 8 “diopeters” Sp? He Said Ppl Rarely Go Over 4. Am I Going Blind?

I was having an exam for a contact lens fitting, and the dr. said disposable lenses were available for people with severe astigmatism now. But, he said that 4 “diopeters” were the highest prescription available for disposable. I have 8 in my right eye, and 6 in my left eye which he said was very bad. He seemed to make a big deal about it. Now, I’m worried. I’ve always had eye problems, but he made it sound worse than I thought it was. He also said I may have Keratoconis which I know is a corneal eye disease. Is blindness likely as I grow older. Please advise

Best Eyeglass Lenses For Severe Nearsightedness And Slight Astigmatism?

December 6, 2009 by admin
Filed under FAQ on advance for astigmatism

I have severe nearsightedness and a slight astigmatism.
It is -6.75, -0.25. Since my vision got below -4.00 (years ago), I have not been able to find a pair of eyeglasses that I can see out of as well as I can contacts. They tend to make me nauseated.
Does anybody have any information on which type of lenses would work best for me? I would really love to start wearing glasses again. Insurance/price is not a factor.
Thank you!

I’m Young, And I Have Severe Astigmatism. Could This Be A Bad Sign For The Future?

Filed under FAQ on advance for astigmatism

I’m only 15, and I have severe astigmatism. It’s getting worse and worse every year, and my parents and doctors are getting worried. My prescription for my left eye is -4.50, -1.25, x180. My right eye is much worse.
My question is, should I worry? My dad has bad astigmatism too, so it must be a gene thing… but still, I have worse astigmatism as him. Is it possible for my astigmatism to get so bad that I become legally blind in the future? Is there anything I can do to slow down the astigmatism? I’m worrying a lot, someone please answer!
Thanks

Glasses Wit Slight Yellow Tint For Severe Astigmatism?

September 26, 2009 by admin
Filed under FAQ on advance for astigmatism

I have severe astigmatism, my ophthalmologist said this slight amber tint could make my vision even sharper than it is now, see, I have a problem when it comes to background colors, has anyone with severe astigmatism got slightly amber tinted lenses, not clip ons, the actual lenses of the glasses. If you do, have they helped your eye problem with background colors, like for reading signs and stuff. Has it made your vision sharper then when you wore transission lenses?? A good answer would be greatly appreciated!

Am I In The Severe Astigmatism Range?

So I’m looking at my eye prescription and I have no idea how bad my astigmatism is.
Right eye : -4.75 -3.75×165
Left eye: -7.00 -2.75×010
Is it that bad? What’s the number cut off between moderate astigmatism and severe astigmatism? Which decimal number accounts for the severity — the decimal number before the “x” or the decimal number after?
Can I still order colored contacts with the same power but without the astigmatism numbers? I need your expertise!
