I am 18 years old and I suffer from myopia (nearsightedness) -5.5 for the left eye, -6 for the right eye and I have astigmatism too. My eyesight has not worsen for 2 years and I have not changed the prescription of my glasses since then.
Is it OK to get LASIK? Should I delay? Cos I don’t want my eyesight to go back the way it was if I get LASIK.

Ive worn contacts before. This was a new office. They did not let me wear my old brand and charged me $95 for a fitting session after my eye exam which took mere moments since I needed no assistantance. The lady then tried to get me to purchase 1 year on the spot for $350 which seems outrageous to me, then tried to talk me into purchasing Gucci sunglasses(I had no interest in sunglasses). I said Id wait a week to see how the contacts feel. I asked why she chose the brand she did she said its cause they’re inexpensive & its the only brand they keep in stock.
Well they feel HORRIBLE already, its only been 2 days. They feel dry and grungy, I have to keep cleaning them throughout the day. They are coopervision contacts but im not sure which kind. Im glad I did not buy 1 years worth. Will I be charged (AGAIN) for a refit into another brand? And are they charging to much for their contacts in general (no abnormalities, no astigmatism, script is only -2.25) Should I go somewhere else?

Should I Tell My Eye Doctor? And If So How?

I went for an eye exam in December 2006 because I was having problems with the distance vision in my right eye especially while driving at night. I know the vision in my right eye has been a little blurry for some time. I just assumed I was mildly nearsighted and may have to do something about it eventually and it did not really bother me much until recently. The vision in my left eye seemed fine.
To my suprise, I was advised I was farsighted and was given the following prescription. Keep in mind, I had not been having any issues with seeing near objects.
Right Eye sphere +1.00 cyl -1.50 axis 60
Left Eye sphere +.75
I know the spherical numbers indicate that the farsightedness was mild, but the astigmatism was in the moderate range based on what I have read about it. It was the reason I was having problems with my distance vision. I chose to get glasses and contact lenses and the prescriptions are same except the cylinder on the contact lens is -1.25.

Should I Try Contacts Again?

I’ve had 2 pair in the last 15 years. Both pair irritated my eyes, although I could see with them. I’m thinking they’re a lot more advanced, should I try again? I either have allergies that affect my eyes(always red, burning)or dry eyes. Also, astigmatism. Are there any contacts for people like me? And, I am going to ask eye doc. all of this, I just wanted some real feedback.

Should I Replace The Lenses In My Glasses?

Filed under FAQ on advance for astigmatism

I recently switched doctors and got a new prescription for my glasses. My current lenses are only a year old and since I primarily wear contacts, I wasn’t planning on updating them. However, I did notice some changes in the prescription that seemed strange so I’m looking for an informed opinion.
Year old:
Right Eye -
Sph: -3.50 Cyl: -1.75 Axis: 180
Left Eye –
Sph: -3.50 Cyl: -4.75 Axis: 005
New:
Right Eye –
Sph: -4.00 Cyl: -1.00 Axis: 180
Left Eye -
Sph: -3.75 Cyl: -4.25 Axis: 005
Now this all looks like voodoo to me, but I’m guessing it means the new Rx corrects somewhat more for myopia, especially in the right eye, and a little less for astigmatism. I frequently experienced severe headaches over the last year when I wore these glasses; however, the contacts the old doc gave me were awful (hence switching doctors). I’m not sure if the prescription for the glasses was off or if the headaches were just from the drastic difference between the Contacts of Doom and the glasses. The new contacts are working out well, so I trust the new doc – I just don’t know how much difference there is between the old Rx and the new one. If it’s significant, I’d consider it worth the money to get new lenses. If not, a penny saved is a penny earned.
Thanks.

Should I Convert Back To Glasses?

I started wearing contacts more than 5 yrs ago, when I was 14, and I’ve been having problems ever since! Because I had dry eye, I switched from yearly contacts to disposable, which was great until my astigmatism presented itself. The optometrist says yearly lenses are tougher built so light and watery disposables may not be the best for astigmatism.
I like the contacts I wear now b/c they are monthlys, except sometimes I can’t see perfectly clear when reading the board or projector in class, but its worse esp on the computer. This is why I can’t get good work done on the computer until I come home and change into glasses.
My doctor suggested cleaning methods, that didn’t work, but he advocates hard lenses, which I really don’t want to do b/c they hurt! The pros of wearing glasses all day everywhere: I wouldn’t have problems doing computer work and I could nap for long w/o worrying abt constantly opening my eyes. Cons: I’m not used to wearing glasses all day anymore, I don’t look so cute in my glasses, so the only places I would wear my contacts would be when I dress up :/
If I were seriously converting back to glasses, I might pay all that money to get a more trendy pair, but I just got a new box of contacts! My dad suggests buying those glasses you can wear over your contacts to reduce computer glare.
What do you suggest?!

Should I Buy Contacts?

Ok I’m 13, and I’ve had glasses since Grade 4. I am near-sighted, as in, I can’t see stuff far away from me. I have slight astigmatism in my left eye. Anyways, I used to not wear my glasses all the time, just to like copy stuff off the board. But since somewhere end of grade 5, beginning of grade 6, I started wearing them ALL the time, cause my eyesight got worst…and I still do.
But now, I want to get contact lenses. i just got my eye exam. Some people have told me I should get contact lenses, cause I’d look better in them. I think so too. But I want to know…are they safe to wear? My mom always says they make your eyes dry and stuff. I’ve also read they can cause eye damage. But really, are they safe to wear? Are they non irritable, if you get the right ones? And what contact lenses are the right ones?
I haven’t used contact lenses before, so I’m not really sure how they work. How do they work? Which types of contact lenses are good? What do you do to keep them good?
