Rgp Lenses Or Soft Lenses?

I’ve been wearing soflens toric 66 lenses by bausch&lomb since 2006. I stopped wearing them after half a year and now i am wearing them again (after a whole year of not wearing them at all and only wearing glasses. I find that they are very uncomfortable and am looking to get a new brand. I also read up on rgp lenses and am considering them. my prescription for contacts is:
Right: sph: -5.00, AX:180, CYL: -0.75, BC:8.5
Left: sph: -4.75, ax: 170, cyl: -0.75, bc: 8.5
I have read that if my astigmatism is less than 1.00 I can probably just wear regular spheric lenses. Can an optometrist on this site verify that for me? Would it benefit me more to wear regular spheric soft lenses, toric lenses, rgp lenses, or toric rgp lenses?
How much is an rgp fitting? Does my regular optometrist do this fitting for me?
Thanks in advance

Can I Wear Soft Contacts?

well right now, I wear gas permeable contacts, and I hate them, I’ve had them for about a year and they are still uncomfortable for the first 30 minutes after I put them in and they turn my eyes red and I usually only wear them for 12 hours even though the eye doctor said I could wear them for up to 16 hours, anyway to start the story off the eye doctor that I went to for my gp’s gave me the gp’s because he said that I had to bad of an astigmatism for soft contacts( he concluded this just by looking at my glasses, without even doing an eye exam on my eyes)
So anyways I live in a small town of about 10,000 people, and the eye doctor had just opened up his store so I decided to go their to buy my contacts, and after giving me my contacts, he told me how to clean them and ever since then I have been cleaning them exactly like he told me and after a year they still cause discomfort to my eyes and make them irritated!
I asked another eye doctor( that actually knows what he’s doing!) and he even said that the guy wrongly told me how to clean them! So I don’t even know if I can believe anything else this guy said to me since he didn’t even tell me how to clean them!
So I was wondering if I would be able to wear acuvue oasis for astigmatism, since their soft contacts I think they would be a lot more comfortable, but I don’t know if I’m able to wear them. So if anyone out their with an astigmatism that uses acuvue for astigmatism, could you tell me more about them please, like if you can wear them continously, and still have them on when you sleep, are they comfortable? the cost of them?
I don’t know my perscription, so I’m going to a new eye doctor on Sept. 8th for a full exam, but until then can someone tell me if I can wear soft contacts?

i saw a commercial talking about how they came out with some new soft contacts for astigmatism but when i went to my eye doctor and asked if i could switch she laughed at me. she said that my eyes were too bad for soft lenses. i really really hate wearing hard lenses because they irritate my eyes a lot. is what she said correct? i just wanna make sure she wasnt trying to keep me on hard lenses because they are expensive and she can make more money. i know thats wrong to think but i just wanna know if i should get a second opinion

Question About Soft Contacts For Astigmatism…?

Okay-
I’ve been wearing these awful bi-toric rigid gas permeable contact lenses for the past 12 years. At the time when I had them made, the Doctor told me that some companies did actually make soft contacts for my massive astigmatism- the catch was that they’d never offer the sharp focus that a rigid gas perm lens would.
Over the years, I’ve had a few pairs made to correct my changing prescription- I never thought to ask her about new technologies with the soft contacts that correct astigmastism. I was wondering if the new kinds offer sharper focus than they used to? Are they similar to wearing the old school types that I currently have?
With the soft lenses, you wear them for a few weeks and replace them, correct? Over the course of a year, what would the cost be?
Sorry- one last question… Are the soft lenses ready made? My rigid gas perm bi torics took weeks and weeks to get them dialed in- she had to send them back several times to get remade. Will I have to go through all that again with the soft type?
Wow! THANKS so very much for your help. I really really appreciate it.
