What Is It Like To Get Contacts?

November 28, 2009 by admin
Filed under FAQ on advance for astigmatism

I’ve been wearing glasses for about a year now. I’m nearsighted with an astigmatism, and I’m interested in getting contacts. I’m a little nervous to get them, however my eye doctor told me that I can wear them if I want. If I decide to try them, do I need to go back to the eye doctor or I can I use the same prescription as my glasses on 1800contacts or another similar site? What is the upkeep on them? Are they comfortable? Thank you! :)

Contacts prescriptions and glasses prescriptions are the same thing. I’ve been wearing contacts for about 7 years now, and yeah, they’re really comfortable (and won’t leave those marks on your nose either lol). If you do want contacts, your going to have to go back to the doctor so they can be fitted for your eye. After that, they’re going to teach you how to put them in, take them out, and care for them.

for contact lens ,simple spectacle power is not enough, need to see the base curve, diameter of contact lens, your occupation, life style.
so,…better have the fresh eye testing with your optometrist or ophthalmologist get those details for contact lens fitting, then get the new pair of contact lens as per recommendation. They will teach you how to wear and remove ,care and maintenance……..

Contacts are kind of hard to get in and out for your first couple of tries but are very easy once you get the hang of them. The comfortability of contacts range by brand. A great kind of contacts are the acuvue oasis. They are very comfortable. But make sure that you never put your contacts on backwards because that feels terrible. But over all iwould definatly recommend getting contacts.

    i’m new to contacts too!
i got them like 3 months ago. They are comfortable, you still feel like you’re wearing a pair of glasses. I think it’s the safest if you go back to your eye doctor and check on ur prescription. who knows, it might have adjusted!

I was in your shoes just a couple of weeks ago. It’s not a bad process switching over to contacts at all, but it will take a little getting used to.
First of all, you’ll definitely have to go back to the eye doctor. Glasses and contact lenses use very different things to determine your prescription. They’ll most likely give you a regular eye exam followed by a different exam which will be used to determine what kind of contact lens you should wear. It’s a completely harmless and quick process, so don’t worry about that.
If you’ve never worn them before, they will for sure give you a trial pair to wear for at least a week. However, before they let you leave they’ll make you put them on and take them out right in front of them. It’s really to your benefit as putting them on for the first time is downright annoying and scary a little bit. Personally it took me nearly 30 minutes and the optician was sitting right across from me the entire time….talk about awkward! But I finally got them in. Once you take them out, they should have you put them back in and sign some papers legalizing how they instructed you and all that.
After the trial is up, you can go back in and order/buy your boxes with your prescription. It’s that simple. You can even choose colors if you wish. They come in your prescription as well.
In my opinion they take some getting used to. You’ll feel it on your eyeball for a while and at times they may slip around a bit, but your eye will get used to it. Upkeep is very easy. Get some lens solution to put them in overnight and use it also to rinse them off before you stick them back in your eye. That’s really all you have to do.
Having them is extremely liberating from the cumbersome glasses. I’d definitely recommend you get some!
