Why Did My Contacts Get Worse After A Couple Of Days?

I just got contact lenses and the first day I wore them they were really good and I didn’t have any major problem with them except a little dryness here and there, but after a couple of days it didn’t feel right and today they were constantly dry and I had to put eye drops in every 30 minutes or so.
I have astigmatism and have been wearing glasses constantly since I was in grade 6 and I am now going into 3rd year of university. I am wondering if this just may be my eyes adjusting. Also I ran out of the cleaning solution given to me by my optometrist and bought a different king but switched back when it didn’t feel right so this is my 2nd day on the original proscription. Could this also be a problem?
I would really appreciate an answer since my optometrist is a hopeless idiot and if I go back to him one more time to change the prescription and they may charge me and I don’t feel like paying for his mistakes
If you just got the lenses, how long are you wearing them each day? You’re right, your eyes do take time to adjust, and if you’ve been wearing them all day since the start, that’s not good for them. You should do it in small steps, and increase the time you have them in every day until you’re up to normal usage. This lets your eyes reform to the lens (yes, they do reshape a bit to fit the lens) and it lets your eyes recover as well. If you have the correct type of lens, and you increase wear gradually, you should not have to be putting in eye drops so often.
The type could also be a problem. Are they disposables? Day/nights? You can’t just pop them in and leave them there for days on end, unless you have a special type of lens. I don’t know much about astigmatism, but I’ve been in contacts for about 8 years now. My best advice is to take it slow, make sure you understand what type of lens you have, and to just take them out if they hurt. Your eyes are very sensitive.
Also, a side note, if you don’t like the optometrist, is there another you can go talk to? I’m sure they’ll do a consultation or something like that so you can see if you want to switch, or even just get a “second opinion” of sorts.
Stick with a good name brand contact lens solution. The preservatives in the cheaper store brands give a lot of people problems. Make sure you’re using a rewetting drop that’s made for soft contact lenses before you put the lenses in and throughout the day. Everyone has a limit as to the number of hours contact lenses can be comfortably worn in a single day. Keep track of when the lenses become uncomfortable and try to give your eyes a break, especially as you’re still getting used to them.
