Why Is My Eye Sight Getting Bad?

well over the summer i noticed things getting harder to see and as time passed it got worse and worse i had my eyes checked a few years ago and i had 20/20 vision.. so about 2 months ago i went to get them checked.. the doc. didnt tell me what the numbers were but said i had an astigmatism in my right eye and didnt seem to be concerned about it just suddenly going.. and now its driving me crazy i cant see far away if im like 5-10 feet away from my clock on the stove i cant even see it and i cant see street signs until im right up on it things like that why does it seem to be just going away im only 19 turning 20 in march. oh and ever since i was little in middle school i noticed i cant see when they wright on the white dry erase boards in red ink or white signs/bags etc with red letters on it or vice versa.. whats wrong with me?
You absolutely must see an Opthalmologist right now. Right now. Why are you just sitting where wondering whats going on while you are going blind.

Legally blind is 20/200 so yes from your description you are blind right now. You should be a little scared until you get an Opthalmologist, not just an Optometrist, to look at you. Seriously I am not trying to be cruel to you, but I am a little astounded.
Its not as scary as it seems. Just go and have your eyes examined. And get a pair of glasses from that prescription and everything shall be as clear as day. I have an astigmatism and everything 14 inches away from my face is all blurry so I totally understand what it feels like without glasses. You can get astigmatism at anytime in your life.

The first person does not know what he/she is talking about. The only thing they are right about is to have an eye exam. It sounds like you may be nearsighted and you already knew that you had astigmatism. I have astigmatism in my left eye and my right eye is normal. Everything out of my left eye is a little blurry but distance is worse than near. I typically wear a contact lens in my left eye when I go out and eyeglasses at home when needed.
The only way to know what the problem is so you can treat it is to have an eye exam.
Edit: Astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness can appear at any time even though they were not present on a prior eye exam. I’ve had astigmatism in my left eye since childhood.
As the 3rd and 4th answerers said – get your eyes tested. Your sight might have changed since last time you had it checked. I know it can be expensive to get your eyes tested but try shopping around. You might be able to get the cost of the eye test knocked off the price of the glasses you get (ask before you book your appointment). Or check opticians websites to see if they have any vouchers (now is probably a good time – January is quiet as most people have spent so much money at Christmas and any shop is going to be glad to take your money!)
